March Pinup of the month, Poppy Noir, is a flamingo-loving gal from Philadelphia USA. Read on to get to know Poppy better with us.
How did you choose your Pinup name?
I knew that i wanted Poppy for a couple reasons, both of my grandfathers had passed away with in the last 8 months and they both went by poppy. Also they were both US Military Veterans, as am I, and the Poppy represents the US Military Veteran. After that it was just finding the words to go with it. At the time i had black hair so I went with Noir.
Why do you love pinup?
I love Pinup because there are no perfect age, size, scale, or color. It is such a positive world to become a part of filled with support and love and shared interests. My first competition I was blown away at how supportive all of the other contestants were, they build each other up constantly. Also I have found that sometimes, Pinup is where the broken go to reclaim themselves! Which is wonderful
Would you like to share your favourite beauty tip
Coconut oil! For everything! It moisturizes hair and skin, it’s a makeup remover, it makes your tattoos stand out! Coconut oil is a necessity, and mascara!!
What’s your favourite aspect of the Pinup and Rockabilly subculture?
I love the complete inclusiveness! There is no feeling of “doing it wrong”. Pinup and rockabilly are what you make them which is so fun! Every new event, or Show, or online contest - I leave with groups of new friends and supporters from literally all over the globe!!
When did you know that pinup was the right thing for you?
I had recently gotten out of the Military and than became a mother and than became a single mother in about 18 months. I was really trying to redefine myself and find who I was and who i wanted to be. I was also struggling with low self esteem. I competed in a Ms Veteran America Competition where I met two fellow Veteran Pinups and they started my curiousity. As funny as it sounds, it took a Halloween costume of a vintage Military Women to bring it out to me. I looked in the mirror once I finished my hair and make up and realized - this is it - this is what i want to look like.
What advice would you like to give to new pinups?
Be yourself, have fun, do uncomfortable things! It can be scary to throw yourself into a new lifestyle but it is so fun and fulfilling! I have a whole new lady tribe that supports me and gives me confidence and it is amazing!
Which is your favourite dress from the new Lady Vintage tea dress range and why?
This was so hard for me! I LOVE polka dots! Like LOVE! And flamingos! Pretty much everything was amazing!!! I’m going to have to go with the green flamingoes!!
What's your favourite season?
Spring, I love the idea of rebirth and everything blooming and preparing for summer :)
