Meet Miss Betsy-Lee Rebel from Hamilton, NZ, our Pinup of the month for July! Betsy-Lee is a car-loving, rock and roll dancing Pinup with some pretty impressive shoes and seriously striking eyes.
How did you choose your Pinup name?
My Pin-Up name is a bit of a mix of things I love.
My Husband and I owe a Rambler Rebel, which is where the last name Rebel came from and Betty Page is a great inspiration to me, but there are already quite a few Betty’s out there, so I went with a close sounding Betsy. I tried Betsy Rebel for a while and it didn’t sound quite right so in went the Lee which is my Sisters middle name. And from there it just worked and Miss Betsy-Lee Rebel was born!
Why do you love pinup?
I love the freedom of expression that Pin Up gives and the way you feel when you wear the clothing. The entire scene is very empowering. The people are fabulous and encouraging and it’s a wonderful family to be part of. And of course the shoes…..
Would you like to share your favourite beauty tip?
Take care of your skin! Make sure you take your makeup off at night and have a few makeup free days every so often. We all love the made up feeling, but it’s great for your skin to breathe every so often.
What’s your favourite aspect of the Pinup and Rockabilly subculture?
The people, the clothing, the cars! They are all so fabulous, but I would have to say the people are my favourite aspect.
I have meet so many new people and made many friends in the Pin up scene and everyone is just so nice! They really are what make the scene awesome to be involved in (although those gorgeous shoes and clothes come in a close second!!!)
When did you know that pinup was the right thing for you?
I was originally introduced to the Pin Up scene 13 years ago when my husband and I started Rock and Roll dancing and it all looked so glamorous and the girls were all gorgeous, but it wasn’t until around 4-5 years ago that I became more heavily involved in it and last year I decided that I would start entering competitions and putting myself out there more as a Pin Up Model and its honestly been one of my better decisions – I’m having so much fun!
What advice would you like to give to new pinups?
Just be yourself!
Pin Up is a fantastic scene where your uniqueness is embraced so be who you are and wear what you like, just whatever you do or who you are, rock it!!!
Favourite business shoutout!
My shoutout would have to be for the Sar-Cie brand which is available at Straight Cut Clothing. They do some fabulous skirts and dresses with a new range coming out soon.
19Black where I tend to go shopping often (unfortunately for me, Judy placed her shop around the corner from my house….)
Honey L’Amour and Curvy Couture who make beautiful made to measure clothing and the wonderfully talented Johnny Dean Rebel from J.D. Rebel Photography. He is an absolute whizz behind the camera and always makes me look a million bucks!
